What a tragedy it would be to lose the Special Ed designation for GT. It’s something that LA public schools do of which I’m envious. Individual testing and IEPs are essential for the highest level of services. In Texas, we’re all trying to figure out to make that happen.

  2. Sadly, this seems to be happening everywhere. Certainly where I live, Montgomery County, MD. We’ve never had gifted IEPs, but GT students were considered as on of the “special populations” in terms of school policy. Well now they’re rewriting the policy–and nowhere does the term “gifted and talented” appear. Now it’s all about “accelerated and enriched instruction” and challenge for “all children.”
